Hastelloy C22 Flanges are a technique used by many industries in the connecting of pipes, valves, pumps and other equipment, into what is referred to as a piping system. The secondary task of a C22 Alloy flange is to provide easy access for cleaning, inspection as well as modification. Generally, UNS N06022 flanges are usually welded or screwed. In those instances where welding or bolting the flange is not possible, many industries prefer using WNR 2.4602 Threaded Flanges. Threaded flanges are particularly useful for those applications that transport across flammable substances in their piping system. In the instance when bolting is to be used, bolts are used to hold together two flanges with a gasket in between them to provide a seal. Similar to other nickel alloy grades, Hastelloy C22 is very ductile and can be easily fabricated into industrial components such as Alloy C22 Blind Flange using specification ASTM B564.


The high content of chromium in the alloy is what provides these flanges with much higher resistance to oxidizing media in comparison to the Hastelloy family i.e. C276 alloy. Apart from exhibiting excellent weldability properties, the other chief attributes of ASTM B564 Hastelloy C22 Slip On Flange includes its resistance to both oxidizing as well as non-oxidizing chemicals, in addition to exceptional resistance to chloride induced pitting. Chlorine induced pitting is a form of an insidious and unpredictable attack, to which many conventional stainless steel grades are susceptible. Moreover, the ASTM B564 UNS N06022 Flanges offers protection from localized corrosion such as pitting, crevice attack, and stress corrosion cracking.

Hastelloy C22 is one of the well-known and well-proven nickel-chromium-molybdenum materials, the chief attributes of which are resistance to both oxidizing and non-oxidizing chemicals, and protection from pitting, crevice attack, and stress corrosion cracking. Its high chromium content provides much higher resistance to oxidizing media than the family standard, C276 alloy, and imparts exceptional resistance to chloride-induced pitting, an insidious and unpredictable form of attack, to which the stainless steels are prone.

UNS N06022 is nickel-base and typically contains 22% chromium, 14% molybdenum, and 3% tungsten. Iron is normally limited to less than 3%. The alloy’s high content of chromium gives it good resistance to wet corrosion by oxidizing media (e.g., nitric acid and ferric and cupric salts). Its contents of molybdenum and tungsten give the alloy resistance to wet reducing media (e.g., sulfuric and hydrochloric acids). WERKSTOFF NR. 2.4602 exhibits excellent resistance to corrosive attack by seawater under stagnant and flowing conditions.


At elevated temperatures, the high chromium level of Hastelloy C-22 Alloy helps it resist oxidation, carburization, and sulfidation. Since it is nickel-base, alloy 22 resists high temperature attack by halides (e.g., chlorides and fluorides). With these attributes, the alloy is widely used to protect steel tubes and other components in coal-fired and waste-to-energy boilers.
